Today the next instalment of Ubuntu hits the upgrade and download servers. This release could be very important for Canonical as it is the first step to an integrated OS for PC, mobile, tablet and television. Although some of these areas are not ready for everyday use they are all using the same base and apps created with the Ubuntu SDK will run on all platforms.
This release brings updates to the Ubuntu Unity environment adding far more power and speed to the often maligned UI. As part of their integration process a host of speed and memory improvements were generated by the release of the Nexus 7 OS images (not Ubuntu Touch) with a bug program initiated by Canonical.
As usual the mirrors will no doubt run slow this evening and possibly for the next day or two.
Having used Raring as my daily driver for a few months I can confirm the speed increases in the whole OS.
Will you be upgrading today?
