VLC Player from VideoLAN is one of the best media players available on Windows, Mac & Linux due to its almost superpowered ability to play almost any media file format thrown at it, well now it has sort of officially come to Android.
I do stress the ‘sort of’ because VideoLAN has released instructions on how to compile the VLC for Android app for yourself but haven’t put out an actual app.
Luckily one very smart man (Austen from CVPS) has put the app together & is hosting it on his site for all to download.
However you do need to find out if your device supports NEON or not which is a simple matter of opening the file at /proc/cpuinfo using a decent file manager such as Astro (link) or ES File Manager (link) & looking for the word ‘NEON’ in the line that says ‘Features’. Then its just a simple matter of downloading the relevant VLC apk.
It is far to soon to give a review of this yet but I have been using it for the last couple of days & I have to say although it is not perfect yet it is still an exceptional video player especially when you consider that it is still in its pre-alpha development stage, it even supports app to SD, well worth checking out
