Dell have never been a major player inside the realm of Android, what they have done is sit on the outside and never really pushed towards the venture let along embrace it. Now, given that Dell’s Founder Michael Dell has decided to use his own Dell conference as a way to squash Android and suggest that it is pretty much a rubbish platform i think it’s a bit of a cheek and here is why.
The Microsoft “Fanboys” supreme although have taken on other platforms like Linux in their PC business and Android in the mobile arm, what the haven’t done is ever really put their all or even an effort forward towards them.
Dell said that the Android operating system has "not developed to the expectations", Now lets look at some statistics shall we Mr. Dell.
Google and their Android OS has seen massive growth and developed into what can only be described as astronomical. Android has grown in Europe to be just behind Symbian, which i may add will be taken over and surpassed soon. The little green robot now has 22.3% of the market inside of Europe, this is ahead of Apple and yes that’s right ahead of Microsoft. The growth, well last year it’s stronghold was only 6.1%, so that’s a huge 16.2% development increase. Now Michael Dell how is that Android OS "not developed to the expectations" i ask?.
They then handed over to the president of Consumer Division Steve Felice, he then preceded to try and downplay the company’s poor record and claim the Dell devices including the Dell Streak were put out in small numbers so too – "see customer reaction and behaviour".
Adding something else that was pretty shocking with this – "Within the $3 trillion industry that we’re in, the consumer business is worth $250 billion," he said. "Dell is much more focused on providing a complete set of solutions to customers, including the device, but we’re not really focused on the device."
Now if Dell actually did focus on the device, push them out their and market them, maybe, just maybe they might of got somewhere with Android. With poor hardware and often outdated Android OS versions being shipped with a device such as the Dell Streak and it’s 1.6 shipping version, is it any wonder they failed. Michael Dell and his company top brass seemed to want to point the finger at Android as the line of fault, well Michael Dell i think with statements like those you have only yourself to blame and your own ethos is is your own shortcoming with the venture with Android.
They have pledged to stick the weight behind Windows 8 and the Microsoft platforms, so could this be the end of Dell Android devices, will we see no more Dell Android devices?. Well, one thing is for sure, i don’t think we will be missing them really at all. Do you care if Dell pulled out of manufacturing Android Smartphone’s and Tablets? I know i don’t.
