Researchers at the University of Illinois have published a paper on their design for a super-powered lithium-ion powered battery, which could give us supercharged batteries for all of our devices in the future.
TLDR; This battery technology will allow batteries that can be 2,000x more powerful and charge up in 1,000x the speed of the current technology.
How does it do that? Well, the main change is in a new cathode and anode structure. The new structure is a three-dimensional anode and cathode, whereas currently they are two-dimensional. Also, the makeup of these components is different as instead of lithium salt and graphite, the researchers used polystyrene, glass and nickel and a few other things.
For consumers, this means that along with all of this new technology our gadgets will weigh less and run for longer on the same charge (and charge much much faster).
