Although not available worldwide, Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z, source code is available on the Sony Developer’s Open Source Downloads site.
The Sony Xperia Z was released in Japan three days ago. We are expecting to arrive in other countries in the next couple of months. You can however order it at Clove UK and O2 in purple!
Just to refresh your memory the device has a generous 5 inch 1080p screen, a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM with 16GB internal memory and a 13.1 MP camera. Full HD Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine 2. And of course 4G technology. It’s also water and dust proof.
Sony has been one of the few manufacturers honouring their GPLv2 commitment to release open source code in a timely manner. They continue their support of the Android community with the Sony Xperia Z source code release.
HTC take note, you could learn from Sony.
