We’ll be adult about this and ignore the Necrophilic innuendo’s in PikPoks new game “Into the Dead” which was released on the 19th April 2013, and is available in the Google Playstore now (for free).
I’m a fan of the zombie genre in general so games like this always peak my interest, and for anyone who’s a fan of Temple Run and/or Dead Trigger I think you’ll like this one too.
The game starts with a nice zombie style video introduction indicating you’ve survived a helicopter crash in a world overrun by the man eating Zombies, (insert Louis Suarez joke here)! It starts quickly and the controls are very limited but that does not take away from the addictive feel of the game.
It’s set in first person mode and you’re sprinting across a zombie infested field automatically moving forward with only options of moving left or right to avoid an untimely demise at the hands of gruesome zombies. The game also allows for the use of weapons which can be purchased via the use of accumulated points. Weapon crates also crop up in game during your hectic escape, and trust me the longer you run the harder it gets so you’ll need some weapons.
You only get one life and once you’re caught its back to the start for you. The game keeps track of your record run / high score and I’ve found myself constantly going back in an effort to beat the previous score, did I mention it was addictive!? I’m yet to figure out if there are levels or if it’s just one continual escape run, but there are 3 games modes that seem to get unlocked as you progress (Classic/Massacre/Hardcore).
Visually I quite like the dark feel and atmosphere created in the game and there are options to purchase different styles of zombie if you want to mix it up a little. There are also some bad ass weapons to get your hands on like, chain saws and machine guns. I’ve only had the chance to try the hand gun and chain saw so far and have achieved a measly score of 3,125m.
At the time of writing it’s been downloaded just over 25,000 times and the Playstore rating is a solid 4.5 out of 5 and I’d probably give it the same score to be honest. It’s a great little game that’s free and put together very well. I’d like to see some more movement options like jumping and ducking and even potential to fight off zombies if you get caught, something to consider for future updates maybe.
So my recommendation is to get yourself to the Playstore for some addictive zombie infested escape action, you won’t regret it (link below)!
