Nothing upsets a perfectly good holiday like an SD card crashing in your phone and you losing your videos, with Aunt Ethel’s awful excuse for a Dundee Cake being a close second on that list. It absolutely sucks when all of those memories fly away in a blink of an eye. Sure, you can manually connect your phone to your computer or put your SD card in an adapter and backup your important memories, but who really has time for that?
Vilynx is a free app for Android which promises to take this worry out of your hands, and let you get back to enjoying Aunt Ethel and her culinary creations. By easily managing your videos across all of your social outlets and online storage, it takes the manual aspect away from you and consolidates previews of your videos into the app itself. You setup your social and storage accounts, you take the videos, and Vilynx uploads them and then maintains a short 5-second preview of your app on the device itself.
How it works, is you either import your existing videos into the app, or start recording videos from within the app. Vilynx then uploads them to their service and then to your cloud storage (Box, Dropbox, Facebook, Google Drive, Twitter, Youtube) in the background. You setup in the settings how the app handles those uploads (Wifi only, Mobile only, Wifi and Mobile) and Vilynx goes from there. Once it’s done, you can view quick 5-second videos inside the app on any of your mobile devices (Android, iPad, iPhone) or the Web (coming soon) and then share them with friends, family, and the rest of the world.
I was impressed with how well the app actually performed. I was able to import videos directly to my Box account once I had it setup. Viewing the summary worked out really well and helped me figure out what the particular video was I had uploaded. And if I have two cloud accounts setup I can transfer videos from one service to another. Sharing is easy, because I could share from the app itself or just share from within my social accounts like Twitter. And then when I wanted to show a relative my videos I could do so from my tablet which had Vilynx installed.
Vilynx uses the following permissions:
Hardware ControlsRECORD AUDIOAllows the app to access the audio record path.CONTROL VIBRATORAllows the app to control the vibrator.

Vilynx does a really good job delivering on its promise – to take the worry of wondering if you’re going to lose your precious videos out of your hands and let you get back to what you enjoy doing – capturing those precious moments.
