One accessory I always like to have for my devices is a Desk Stand. I like to be able to place my phone somewhere easily accessible and visible while sat in my office at work.
Usually you end up paying well over the odds (circa £60) for a stand or find one that really limits how you use the device but with the latest range of official stands from Samsung this is not the case any more.
While searching for the ideal Galaxy Note 2 dock I came across many different types, all seemingly having their own restrictions or limitations, e.g. some do not allow phones with cases/covers, some only allows the phone at a fixed orientation, some don’t allow for charging while in the stand etc.
You can also find stands that allow you to do more than just hold your phone (if you wished), but that is for another day.
This stand is very similar in design to the one released for the Galaxy S III earlier this year, like that one it comes with a spare battery (exactly like the one that came with your phone) that can be charged in the stand and has the ability for the device to be used in the stand with or without a case, and in both orientations.
The only ‘weird’ thing about this product is there is no way to charge the battery in the phone while in the stand, the only way to charge is to charge the spare battery, this leaves you with a tough decision of how to treat this ‘spare battery’. Do you make a habit of swapping batteries once a day? or do you just cope without using the spare battery until such time you think you need to carry two?
This is a nicely built dock, what you would expect of both an official Samsung product as well as a stand with a £35 price tag, but in my opinion its worthy of that price.
The stand holds the phone very well at both portrait and landscape orientations (although you might look at it and think that it won’t hold it well at all!), you are easily able to use the device while in the stand without worrying about knocking it over.
The device comes in white (the S3 one was black, I am not sure if there is a black one for the Note2?) which matches my phone.
It has a hidden section to cover the spare battery and a USB port to charge the said battery with green/red LED to indicate the battery charge state.
As I have alluded too above, the only real issue you may have with this is deciding how to use the spare battery, personally I have got myself into the habit of changing the battery at the end of each work day, with the note 2 that should then mean that I do not need to charge the battery at night (as the battery lasts ages!) but only time will tell if I am able to keep this up, either way i will be sure to make use of both batteries, as well as take both with me (charged) when I have a long day out.
Theoretically there is enough juice in these two batteries to comfortably last almost 4 days of medium-to-light use on the phone (if not more!) as the Note2 has one of the best battery life-spans of any phone I have used.
