Going back not too long ago e-book readers where very basic devices often far off from the capabilities of tablets, now the thin line between the two is getting less and less. Amazon probably are one of the most responsible companies for mixing things up with the e-reader/tablet world, and the makers of the Kindle Fire are looking to confuse us even more. Besides getting ready to make/release a whole bunch of new tablets they are reportedly developing a colour e-reader as well which should be made available in the second half of 2012.
E Ink Holdings, the company that provides the electronic ink technology for Amazon and Barnes and Noble, are planning to unveil colour electronic paper displays in the very near future. Amazon are expected to ship six million e-book readers in 2012, this figure doesn’t reveal if it is the old devices or just the new ones waiting to be released.
Obviously there is no information coming from any official sources at this time so this does come under the rumour heading and should be taken with a pinch of salt. Still weirder things have happened so keep your eyes peeled for more.
