Now i think it’s about time to put together a guide so to speak, the guide in question is going to make your Smartphone look as near as possible to that new Ice Cream Sandwich look and feel with are all craving so much. We have two methods and here’s the first.
Step 1 – The Boot Animation
Right, first off we will start from the beginning of what we see when we turn the actual phone on to boot up to Android, and that of course is the boot animation. The Galaxy Nexus Ice Cream Sandwich boot animation that you may well have all seen is quite a nicely designed piece to have, well you can have it and below is how.
Here’s the method on how to get the Galaxy Nexus/ICS boot animation:
- Reboot your phone into recovery.
- Choose “install zip from sd card.”
- ”Choose zip from sd card.”
- Select the file you downloaded from above.
- Once it finishes running choose “Go Back” and then reboot!

That is the rooted method and here is what to do if that doesn’t work or you are unrooted.
The file will need to be pushed via adb:
Extract bootanimation.zip from /data
then using adb type adb push bootanimation /data/local
Step 2: Launcher Theme & CM7 Theme
Part 1 – Custom Launcher Theme – ADW, Launcher Pro And Go Ex Launcher
Now onto the next piece of the puzzle and it’s onto the first part of the setup to get the look and feel of Ice Cream Sandwich as near as we can. First we will start with a cross launcher theme that has been made by developer Kovdev and it’s supporting undoubtedly the three most popular custom launchers out there – ADW, Launcher Pro and Go Ex.
This Ice Cream Sandwich theme is designed to replicate it as much as possible with the look of the stock ICS and Android system we have seen.
Here is what the developer has to say and some instructions you may need to read first.
- Themed search widget (ADW only)!
- Honeycomb system icons! (placeholder)
- Wallpaper pack included
- ADW Theme support
- Launcher Pro theme support (limited to icons)
- Go Launcher EX theme support
- Support for Desktop Visualizer
- Support for Folder Organizer
This is a theme intended to replicate the look of Android 4.0’s launcher & icons. The icons included are to replicate a stock experience and not an interpretation, therefore there won’t be any additions other then system apps.
Regarding ‘MovetoSD’ availability: If the app is moved to SD Card, you risk the custom icons not loading properly because of how the system loads the SD card.
Launcher Pro users may need to wipe data if they are having ‘Force Close’ issues. Phone Settings > Applications > Manage Applications, choose Launcher Pro, select ‘Clear Data’ and then try to load the icons again.

Part 2 – CM7 Theme And Extras
To complete the look and feel of ICS we will be using a great CM7 theme that has been made by XDA member SonnySekhon. Of course you will need to be rooted and running the CyanogenMod custom rom, or with the theme chooser available to your rom for this to be able to be applied.
Complimenting the theme for an ease of use put together ICS feel, the CM7 theme changes a whole host of things to give it that blue/tron like look we have been seeing on the Galaxy Nexus ICS demo’s and hands on videos.
Here is a look at what you get with the CM7 theme on it’s own and we will look at the extras and install methods after.
As mentioned there are some extras and they are the lockscreen, and other framework changes that can’t be added via the theme chooser, also you have the dock, icons, and wallpapers.
Here are the files you need below.
The wallpapers and Icons are already in the cross launcher theme in part 1, but this is what i have put together so if choose this route you won’t need them. The dock however looks better in my opinion, so with that simply add the dock as a custom dock option and you have a more white solid line above your dock app choices like Ice Cream Sandwich.
Onto the Metamorpth file and with this we need to download the root application Metamorpth to get these files to work. Simply find the zip file in question, extract and unzip followed by apply all, this should then prompt you to reboot to make the changes take effect. You will then have a ICS style Lockscreen, and framework changes to icons and status bar changes to reflect Ice Cream Sandwich.
Now just as why one of the reasons we love Android, we love choices and boy is their choices on Android. Well, with this compiled guide we have choices too.
The great developers at Team Syndicate have a launcher that has recently been updated to reflect the changes and revelations in Ice Cream Sandwich. The ICS Launcher now has more features, stability and replicates the Ice Cream Sandwich fantastically.
