Google TV wasn’t exactly the great success that Google had hoped it to be. Sales were poor and it lacked features compared to other Smart TV devices. It didn’t take off with manufacturers either; there are currently only three devices with Google TV.
Google TV is back, with more features and an improved look: a look that is somewhere between Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich. A few images of the new Google TV have begun to materialise:
New features in Google TV 2 include a much more simplified interface to work with a remote that would look great on a TV. Google TV 2 also now has a market, which means that you will be able to download apps, as long as developers bother to create applications for that platform. Google TV 2 uses the same base API as all the other Android versions, including Gingerbread, Honeycomb and the latest and greatest Ice Cream Sandwich.
Time will tell if Google TV 2 can penetrate the market better than Google TV did; As long as Google TV isn’t just available to people in the USA, it shouldn’t have a problem.
